The Malaysian Sabah Rubber Industry Council (LIGS) has recently signed two memorandums of understanding aimed at promoting the Sabah MD2 pineapple cultivation industry.
The first memorandum is to collaborate with Rompin Integrated Pineapple Industries in Malaysia to ensure a stable market for the pineapples produced. The second memorandum collaborates with Una Crop company to provide high-quality MD2 pineapple germplasm resources and technical guidance for local planting areas, in order to improve pineapple yield and quality.
Last year, LIGS was commissioned by the Malaysian Ministry of Economy to plant over 80.9 hectares of MD2 pineapple in Kampung Gana. Now, LIGS has decided to develop an additional 121.4 hectares of pineapple plantation. The first batch of fruits is expected to be harvested at the end of October, with an estimated yield of 5000 tons and a value of approximately RM20 million (RMB 30.3 million).
