In recent years, the Chinese blueberry market has shown rapid development, with Northeast China once dominating. However, in recent years, Yunnan blueberries have emerged as a market focus. However, little known is that Guizhou is the region with the widest planting area and highest yield of blueberries in China, with the production season lasting from April to the end of July.
According to data from 2023, there are about 9 cities, prefectures, and more than 70 counties in Guizhou Province planting blueberries, with a total area of about 230000 acres and an annual output of over 100000 tons, ranking first in the country. Guizhou blueberries are known for their large production, but fresh fruits are relatively rare in the market, with low prices. They are often sold for 5-6 yuan/jin, far lower than the price of Yunnan blueberries, which can be as low as 30 yuan/jin.
The price difference mainly stems from the different forms of blueberry industry in the two regions. Yunnan blueberries are mostly sold as fresh fruits, while Guizhou blueberries are mostly used for deep processing, such as frozen blueberries. Guizhou frozen blueberries are divided into three grades, with prices ranging from 10200 to 12800 yuan/ton, even lower than 6 yuan/jin.
Majiang County is the core blueberry production area in Guizhou and also one of the largest planting bases in the country. Except for fresh fruits, 70% of blueberries are used for deep processing, with a comprehensive output value of about 1 billion yuan. Under the guidance of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Nanjing Institute of Botany, Majiang has planted blueberries on a large scale since the end of the 20th century, and now has more than 80000 mu of cultivated area. In 2023, the production reached 38900 tons and the output value was 720 million yuan.
